Number of sessions
The number of sessions you need will depend on your circumstances and what you would like to achieve. Most people I see make significant progress within 4–8 sessions, although some achieve the outcomes they are looking for in just one or two. More complex or longstanding difficulties may require longer-term support.
My aim is to help you achieve meaningful change in as few sessions as is appropriate for you, while developing the understanding and practical tools to maintain your progress independently. We will review progress together and agree whether further appointments would be helpful.
If therapy is not producing meaningful progress, we will discuss this openly and, where appropriate, explore whether another therapist, service or approach would better meet your needs.
Sessions are booked individually. There is no requirement to commit to a fixed number of appointments or pay upfront for a course of therapy.
I use a range of measures to help understand your needs and how you are responding to therapy. If you are happy to do so, I may invite you to complete a brief questionnaire. Alongside our conversations, this helps us review your progress and consider how best to support you.
Payment may be made online in advance or on the day of the consultation. Cash payments are also accepted.
An invoice will be sent by email in advance of the appointment. Payment is due by the end of the day of the consultation. Where payment remains outstanding after this time, a £15 administration fee will be added.
If you have private healthcare insurance it’s worth checking whether your policy covers sessions with me. You’ll need to pay for appointments as usual and claim reimbursement directly from your insurer. While I’m unable to contact insurers or submit claims on your behalf, I’m happy to provide supporting documentation where I can.
Your appointment time is reserved especially for you. Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange. Appointments cancelled or rearranged with less notice, or missed without notice, are charged at the full session fee.
If a serious accident or emergency prevents you from attending, please take care of your immediate needs first and let me know as soon as you reasonably can.
Payment is due by the end of the appointment day. In line with my usual payment terms, a £15 administration fee applies if payment remains outstanding after this time.
Contact between sessions
You’re very welcome to email me with practical questions or a brief update before we meet. We’ll explore therapeutic matters together in your sessions as I’m unable to offer support by email, text or messaging or guarantee a reply before your next appointment.
I don’t provide an on-call or crisis service but we can talk together about ways to manage difficult moments and where to find support between sessions.
Using AI alongside therapy
You may find AI tools such as ChatGPT helpful for journalling or organising your thoughts between sessions. However, a tool that produces a supportive response should not be assumed to be a clinically tested or effective therapy. General-purpose AI chatbots cannot replace the therapeutic relationship or professional judgement, and their responses can sometimes be inaccurate, misleading or unhelpful.
If something you’ve read leaves you confused, unsettled or unsure, you’re very welcome to bring it into our sessions so we can explore it together. Please also be mindful of privacy: avoid sharing identifying or sensitive information about yourself or others, and check how the platform uses what you enter.
