Supervision

Clinical Supervision & Mentoring

Joanna is a qualified Clinical Supervisor registered with the HGI and Head of Supervision for the Human Givens College. She works with trainee and accredited Human Givens therapists, as well as professionals in mental health, social care, and higher education, offering supervision, mentoring, and coaching that is tailored to individual needs. Sessions can be one-to-one or in groups, online, in person at her private practice, or on-site by request. You can arrange supervision regularly, occasionally, or on an ad hoc basis, depending on what works best for you.

What is supervision?

Supervision is a chance to pause, reflect, and develop your practice with the guidance of an experienced practitioner. It supports professional growth, stimulates creativity, and helps you maintain high standards of care, all in a safe, supportive environment. Supervision also benefits client safety, giving you confidence in your decisions and approach.

One to one supervision

One-to-one supervision provides a private, reflective space where you can explore challenges, work through dilemmas, and develop practical strategies for your work. It’s ideal for those wishing to enhance their practice or work towards accreditation and Joanna ensures that sessions are collaborative, supportive and tailored to your professional journey.

Group supervision

Group supervision offers a supportive, collaborative space to share experiences, learn from peers, and gain insight from an experienced supervisor. It’s perfect for those focusing on specific areas of practice, or for teams wishing to develop skills, deepen understanding, and access expert guidance.

Mentoring & Coaching

Joanna also provides mentoring and coaching for professionals in mental health, social care, and education. These sessions are focused, practical, and personalised, helping you build confidence, develop skills, and navigate your professional challenges.

Currently Fully Booked - My practice is currently full, but you’re welcome to join the waiting list. I’ll be in touch as soon as a space becomes available.

"Jo has been my supervisor in my role as Schools Based Practitioner at Leeds Beckett University since Jan 2023. The role was new to me having worked in the NHS for many years and Jo has been very helpful in my development as a practitioner. I have brought several complex situations relating to therapeutic interventions and case management with individual students to supervision. I have appreciated Jo’s compassionate problem solving and relatability in helping support these students in a University setting. I have also asked for help from Jo in creating engaging and informative taught sessions. Jo has helped a lot in advising how to tailor taught sessions to the needs of the individual cohorts and her experience in this field is evident. Jo has also been good at helping me reflect on and understand when things have not gone to plan and helped see the wider picture.  It's been great working with Jo and I really do appreciate her approach to supervision."

"Jo was recommended to me by several colleagues in my institution. The new experience of having an empathetic, wise and generous professional to confide in about some incredibly complex and deep-seated difficulties has been transformative for me. It has made me realize how vital this service is for those of us that are working with vulnerable students. I have benefitted greatly from the process and I can already see a difference in my self-confidence when it comes to self-advocacy and setting personal boundaries in the workplace. Jo has helped me compartmentalize some of the difficulties I have been dealing with and offered reassurance that my feelings were valid. She even took the time to offer me insight and ideas into some CPD ideas I have had about influencing cultural change in my institution. This was something she didn’t have to do, which demonstrates her care, commitment, and quality of service. I look forward to continuing this highly beneficial work and would like to thank Jo for her exemplary dignity and professionalism."

"My experience of having Jo as a supervisor has been very positive. I work in a very large state secondary school and so to have Jo's background in education has been incredibly helpful. She has provided me with excellent resources based on what I am working on and guided and advised me with invaluable insights based on her knowledge and experience. Jo is thorough in her approach and asks for an agenda ahead of time which helps to keep our session focused and relevant to what I would like to work on. I always come away with a new idea or a different way or approach to something thanks to Jo perhaps giving a different perspective on something. She is encouraging and feel she champions the work that I do, but trust that she would also pull me up on areas she feel I could work on or develop, which is essential for my development as a therapist."

"My role is to support the students with their mental health and well-being so I was pleased when our team was offered supervision. It is an empathic and safe space talk through concerns or just to vent. Sometimes the incidents we manage are extreme and we need to talk through what is happening.  Jo became my supervisor in April 2022 and I cannot put into words the support she has given me. Not only will she listen to ‘everything’ I talk about she has the knowledge and understanding to help put things into perspective. Jo shares my passion for supporting students so she is always willing to advise and give resources that will help me help them. I really appreciate all Jo does to support me and I look forward to our sessions."

"I am very  happy to recommend Jo as a supervisor without any reservations.  I have enjoyed incredible levels of support from her through some challenging times.  Jo's great communication and organisation means she finds the time to be available to her supervisees and to respond to their needs.  Her relaxed professionality allows you to feel very comfortable to bring anything to the table.  Jo listens, seeks to truly understand and reflects with wonderful wisdom, bringing learning and growth.  Time with Jo comes with sound advice, positive direction and leaves you feeling confident and smiling."

“Jo has been my supervisor for over a year and in that time has supported me through part 2 and 3 of the Human Givens Diploma. Throughout this process she showed her belief in my capabilities at every stage. Her ability to simplify the complex, provide reassurance and support, sprinkled with a dash of humour and enthusiasm makes supervision something I really look forward to. Her warmth and caring nature is evident throughout our meetings and she provides a safe space to ask questions and reflect on my own practice. Jo has a wealth of knowledge on psychology and therapeutic practice and is someone I trust to guide me in an ethical and professional way.”

"Jo has been and continues to be a never ending source of knowledge, support and kindness. Jo works with objectivity, offering a guiding second brain, offering relevant resources, practical advice and alternative ways of developing my practice. I can hand on heart say I would not be anywhere close to the position I am in without her. Jo is the best"
